🌎 Re-Commerce on the Rise

The global re-commerce market has surged in recent years, emerging as one of the most influential trends in the retail industry. As Gen Z consumers increasingly prioritize sustainability and value-driven consumption, the secondhand market has evolved beyond simple cost-saving to become a core driver of the global distribution industry. The growing prevalence of platform-based transactions has further accelerated this shift.

🛍️ MUSINSA Enters the Fashion Re-Commerce Market

In Korea, re-commerce is also gaining momentum. On August 26, MUSINSA USED officially launched, providing a seamless platform for customers to sell and shop pre-owned fashion. Think of it as Korea’s version of ‘ThredUP’.

Sellers simply pack their items into a “USED Bag” and send them in — MUSINSA handles everything else, including product photography, refurbishment and quality assurance of secondhand items, pricing, and shipping.

Buyers can discover high-quality fashion at affordable prices, while sellers enjoy a hassle-free resale experience.

Before launching MUSINSA USED, one critical challenge was securing enough high-quality inventory. For any re-commerce service, having a wide and diverse product selection is just as important as providing a seamless user experience. Even if customers applied to sell items right after launch, the quality assurance process required time before products could be listed — which meant building an initial inventory in advance was essential.

The solution came from over 1,600 members of Team MUSINSA. From mid-June to late July, MUSINSA ran a six-week internal beta of the MUSINSA USED platform, giving employees exclusive early access. Employees voluntarily tested the service by contributing their own items while also conducting bug checks and usability testing, helping enhance the platform’s overall quality before launch.

To make participation more engaging, MUSINSA organized an in-house competition. The business unit and individual who contributed the most items received team dinner vouchers and Self-Love Credits*. Weekly rankings were announced every Monday, sparking friendly rivalry among employees and fueling even greater participation week after week.

Thanks to the enthusiastic support of Team MUSINSA, more than 6,300 pieces of clothing were collected. Over half successfully passed inspection and authentication and were listed as final sale items — a direct result of employees contributing high-quality products.

*Self-Love Credits refer to MUSINSA’s monthly shopping allowance provided to Team MUSINSA employees, which can be used freely across MUSINSA, 29CM, and SOLDOUT.”

The launch of MUSINSA USED was made possible thanks to the voluntary participation and support of Team MUSINSA. Although the internal competition has ended, employees continue to contribute, enabling us to offer customers an even wider selection of products.

Above all, the bugs discovered and UX improvement ideas provided by employees during beta testing played a crucial role in enhancing the stability and overall quality of MUSINSA USED. As a result, we were able to deliver a better experience to customers from day one.

The launch of MUSINSA USED is not only about introducing a new service but also about taking the first step toward a circular fashion economy. By collaborating with employees and customers, MUSINSA aims to foster a sustainable ecosystem where pre-loved fashion finds new life and conscious consumption becomes part of everyday style.
